One Family, One Design, Since 1906
Harry Gerstner was twenty-two, fresh from a four-year woodworking apprenticeship, when he built a tool chest as a side project. It caught on. With a hundred-dollar bonus he started a company — and named it “H. Gerstner & Sons” because it sounded established, though he would go on to raise three daughters and never have a son.
More than a century later the company is still family-owned and still building chests from Harry’s original drawings. Of the twenty-some workshops making wooden tool chests in his day, Gerstner is the only one left. The dark oak chests in this collection carry that lineage forward — felt-lined, hand-fitted, and made to be the last tool chest you ever buy.

It is not the American-made solid-hardwood chest hand-built in Dayton; it is constructed of solid oak and oak-veneered ply, finished in dark oak, and priced to bring the Gerstner name within reach.

Four Felt-Lined Drawers
Every full-width drawer is lined with felt — the traditional Gerstner touch — to cushion jewelry, watches, coins, and small tools. Each interior runs about 9¾″ wide by 4″ deep.
Tongue-and-Groove Drawers
The drawers are tongue-and-groove-joined for added durability — the kind of joinery that keeps a small drawer square and sliding smoothly for decades, not seasons.
Polished Chrome Hardware
